 | | | 1996 in music - Musical theater: Encyclopedia II - Talking Heads - HistoryTalking Heads married punk rock sensibilities with poppy sounds, clipped funk, art school intellectualism, and later, world music. | | | 1996 in music - Musical theater: Encyclopedia II - Sex Pistols - Influences and LegacyThe Sex Pistols remain influential, however, both for their musical style and in terms of their influence on the British cultural landscape. Whereas previous challenges to the class system, and to the post-war British ethos of uncomplaining sacrifice, had come mainly from within, such as from the public school and Oxbridge dominated satire boom of the late 1960s and early '70s (including the Monty Python troupe), or from the social-realist novels and theatre of the 1950s and early '60s, the Pistols communicated directly with a much wider, more vernacular audience and, to some ...

 | | | 1996 in music - Musical theater: Encyclopedia II - Soap opera - Soap opera characteristics
Soap opera - Plots and storylines.
Most soaps follow the lives of a group of characters who live or work in a particular place. The storylines follow the day-to-day lives of these characters. In many soap operas, in particular US daytime serials, the characters are generally more handsome, beautiful, seductive, and wealthy than the typical person watching the show. This is true to a lesser extent in Australian and UK soap operas which largely focus on more everyday characters and situations. Many Australian and U ...

 | | | 1996 in music - Musical theater: Encyclopedia II - Hip hop rivalries - LL Cool J vs. Kool Moe DeeKool Moe Dee was a member of one of the earliest hip hop crews, the Treacherous Three, and claimed that LL Cool J stole his style, thus causing a long-running feud between the pair. From different interviews and magazines at the time, Kool Moe Dee felt that LL was getting a bit too big headed and actually believing his own hype, particularly when LL was rising to popularity with the Bigger and Deffer album. Supposedly, Moe Dee approached LL and talked to him, and LL either brushed him off, or went back to his old ways after the talk. ...

Che Guevara - Hero.
While pictures of Guevara's dead body were being circulated and the circumstances of his death debated, his legend began to spread. Demonstrations in protest against his execution occurred throughout the world, and articles, tributes, and poems were written about his life and death. Even liberal elements that had felt little sympathy with Guevara's communist ideals during his lifetime expressed admiration for his spirit of self-sacrifice. He is singled out from other revolutionaries by many yo ...
