1992 - Alternative: Encyclopedia - Common rapper

Common (aka Common Sense, born Lonnie Rashid Lynn on March 13th in 1972) is a Chicago-based hip hop artist known for lyrics that focus more on love and spirituality, and less on the usual hip hop trappings of money, power, and women. Many people can describe him as being a "true" hip-hop artist, who makes real songs that indeed send a message. Common debuted in 1992 with the single "Take It EZ" and the LP Can I Borrow a Dollar?. Though popular success was virtually nonexistent, Common established a solid fanbase among alternative ...

1992 - Alternative: Encyclopedia II - List of unreleased songs by Kylie Minogue - Kylie Minogue album: 1993–1994

After signing with DeConstruction Records, Minogue began work on her new album. She first worked with the Rapino Brothers in June 1993. 1992 - Alternative: Encyclopedia II - Alternative hip hop - Early 1990s

During the early 1990s, mainstream hip hop was dominated by the West Coast G-Funk (like Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg). Other artists found success difficult to achieve, though some East Coast acts, such as Puff Daddy's empire of East Coast hip hop artists (Bad Boy Records) gained chart success (Mary J. Blige' 1992 What's the 411?) as well as critical success (Nas' 1994 Illmatic), though rarely both at the same time. Al ...

1992 - Alternative: Encyclopedia II - Pearl Jam - 1990

Pearl Jam was born from the bosom of Mother Love Bone. With the death of Mother Love Bone frontman Andrew Wood and the disintegration of the band in 1990, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament set out to create their next band. They recruited guitarist Mike McCready and recorded a three song demo tape. This tape made it to ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons, who passed it on to Eddie Vedder during one of their hiking trips. Eddie listened to the tape shortly before going surfing. While he was out in the water, the music played in hi ...

1992 - Alternative: Encyclopedia II - Pearl Jam - 1991–1995

Pearl Jam became a key member of the Seattle grunge explosion, along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain at one point angrily attacked the group because he saw them as commercial sell outs and some believe that it could have been partially because the band was more successful on the Billboard charts than Nirvana was; however Kurt and Eddie Vedder later reconciled and repo ...

1992 - Alternative: Encyclopedia II - Pearl Jam - 1996–2002

Over the next few years, Pearl Jam's popularity declined, in part because of their unwillingness to record videos and because of a lawsuit alleging a Ticketmaster monopoly which stifled the launch of supportive tours. Another reason for its decline in popularity may be due to its uncommercial and experimental nature. The first CD could be classed as grunge, but their later body of work was more difficult to categorize. On August 27, 1996, exactly five years after the release of Ten, the band released their fourth album, No C ...

1992 - Alternative: Encyclopedia II - Pearl Jam - 2003–

In June 2003, the band announced they were officially leaving their label of twelve years, Epic Records, a Sony imprint. The move was viewed as something of a coup and has been described as "...one institution leaving another, the most popular and important American rock band of the '90s, voluntarily rejecting the grandest label heritage...". Pearl Jam states it has "no interest at this time" of signing with another label and is "excited about our freedom". Pundits say if Pearl Jam's move is successful, it may be the death knell of the music ...
