1985: Encyclopedia II - Ford Scorpio - 1985

Engineering-wise, the 1985 Scorpio was heavily based on the Sierra, sitting on a stretched version of its floorpan, and using a similar styling philosophy set by both it and the third generation Escort. Under the hood were well-proven power units, starting with the venerable Pinto unit in 1.8 L and 2.0 L capacities, and the Cologne V6 in 2.4 L, 2.8 L and later 2.9 L editions. The Scorpio was intended as a far more luxurious car than the Granada, so features such as leather upholstery, electrically adjustable seats, h ...

1985: Encyclopedia II - John Tudor - 1985

Tudor's highlight was a spectacular 1985 season for the St. Louis Cardinals. Oddly enough, Tudor started that year with a 1-7 record and a 3.74 earned run average through May. He then went on a tear that has rarely been seen since by going 20-1 the rest of the season and lowering his ERA to 1.93. Only the best season of Dwight Gooden's career stopped Tudor from winning the National League Cy Young Award and leading the league in ERA, wins and complete games. He wa ...

In 1985, a redesigned front wheel drive Electra debuted on the GM C platform, including a performance-oriented T-Type version. Also in 1985, Park Avenue became an official trim designation within the Electra series, though it had appeared unofficially as early as 1978. The Electra Estate station wagon model was an entirely different car. 1990 saw the last of Electra production, as the Park Avenue series replaced it in Buick's lineup. Engine: See also:

1985: Encyclopedia II - Walter Payton - 1985

Although Walter Payton was a legitimate superstar and an icon in the city of Chicago, he played on some awful Bears teams. That changed in 1985. Former Bears tight end Mike Ditka had returned to the team in 1982 as its head coach and began rebuilding it. In 1985, the Bears had an incredible season, going 15-1 in the regular season (with their only blemish being an embarrassing loss to the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football in the 13th week). The Bears bounced back and finished strongly, then, augmented by a song Bears members recorded c ...

The 1985 323 again featured a 1.5 L engine. It was available as a hatchback, sedan and wagon (this time also front wheel drive). The Ford Laser version of this model also formed the basis of the Mercury Tracer. The model remained in production in South Africa until 2003, as an entry level model, also being sold as the Ford Tonic, and was briefly sold in the UK as the Sao Penza. A locally designed pick-up called the Hustler was also produced, and sold as the Ford Bantam. This generation was sold through the 1989 model year in the United States. 1985: Encyclopedia II - Oldsmobile 442 - 1985

The 442 name was revived in 1985 on the rear wheel drive Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The name was now defined as referring to the car's 4-speed 200r4 automatic transmission, 4-barrel carburetor, and 2 exhausts. This W42 model replaced the 1983 and 1984 Hurst/Olds model and used the same 5.0 L LG8 V8. The shifter was mounted on the floor in a console between the front seats, and the upgraded F41 suspension package was included. 3,000 were produced in the first year, and all were sold quickly. 4,273 were produced ...
