1983 - Events: Encyclopedia II - Iran-Iraq War - War of the Cities

Toward the end of the war, the land conflict regressed into stalemate. Both Iraq and Iran lacked sufficient self-propelled artillery to support their respective armored forces in assaults. This was made even more important because neither side had the air force capability to support ground forces. When the relatively professional Iraqi armed force advance was halted by the sheer size and committment of Iranian infantry and the Iranian infantry moved to advance itself; it faced the terrible prospect that the Iraqis had large numbers of ...

1983 - Events: Encyclopedia II - Guiding Light - History

The series was created by Irna Phillips, who based it on personal experiences. After giving birth to a still-born baby at age 19, she found spiritual comfort listening to sermons by a preacher of a church centered on the brotherhood of man. It was these sermons that formed the nucleus of the creation of The Guiding Light. Guiding Light - The radio years. The radio show's original storyline centered around a preacher named Rev. 1983 - Events: Encyclopedia II - 2000s - Trends and Fashion

2000s - United States. Fashion slowly becomes less grungy and more excessive as the wearing of flannel by people under 30 declines and acid-washed jeans and shaggy hair become again commonplace for boys and men. For girls and women hoop earrings, originally popular in the 1980s and early 1990s, return to style circa 2004. Wearing baseball caps backwards peacefully falls out of style, in favor of wearing them sideways or forwards. Sunglasses begin to become less widespread as a fashion statement, un ...

1983 - Events: Encyclopedia II - Đorđe Balašević - Music

His rich narratives are marked by nostalgia and saturated in gentle moods. He was influenced by poets such as his native Mika Antić and songwriter Arsen Dedić, the latter being "debted" openly, as acknowledged by Balašević himself, (I am an Arsen-addict). He is mostly well known for his love songs. In the present 28 years of his career it is difficult to single out his best songs. There are many in that category which mark each ...
