He attended The Latymer School in Edmonton and started in showbusiness aged 14, with a song, dance, and ukulele act called "Boy Bruce, the mighty atom".

Upon Balašević joining "Žetva", the band recorded a tango single hit "U razdeljak te ljubim" with them, which sold more than 180,000 copies, a huge success by Yugoslav standards.
