Definition and meaning of Law of April 6

Law of April 6, 1830

In an effort to strengthen Mexican control over Texas, Mexican officials stopped all immigration from the United States into Texas, including slaves. Settlers from Europe or Mexico were still welcome. More Mexican soldiers were sent to Texas and all goods imported into Texas were subject to taxation. Instead of Texans becoming more dependent on Mexico, the limits imposed by the laws angered them.
