In 1891, a bronze statue of Muravyov was erected on one of the Amur River's cliffs near Khabarovsk. In 1929, it was taken off and replaced with a statue of Lenin, which stood there until 1989. In 1992, the remains of Muravyov-Amursky were brought from Paris to be re-buried in the central part of Vladivostok. A monument to Muravyov-Amursky in Khabarovsk was restored in 1993. ...

Douglas was born in Demerara, British Guiana, the illegitimate son of a Scottish sugar planter and a "free coloured woman". In 1812 he was sent to Lanark, Scotland to be schooled. It is also believed that he went to school in Chester, England, where he learned to speak and write in fluent French. At the age of 16 Douglas left Britain to enter the fur trade in the North West Company. He left Liverpool for Lachine, Lower Canada (now part of Montreal) in the spring of 1819.
